You could say that James Tyler got his schooling here in Utah, and his education working in Los Angeles. He's a former student of John Sugden, and worked under him while in Salt Lake, before going on to become the design director for Craig Elwood in California. You can see the Miesian influence from John in the homes James designed in the Golden State. His work with Elwood would come to be a success most architects could only dream of. Later, following his departure from Elwood, he became a master in his own right. In the same year this home was built, James started his own firm and joined the USC faculty.
